An independent guide to Canada's casino hotels
We review casino hotels. We do not operate one, we do not take wagers, and no property can buy a score. Founded in 2023 and published from Toronto.
What we do
Canada Hideaways is an editorial publication about casino hotels and resorts in Canada. We review the properties, explain the games you will find on their floors, and set out the practical information — gaming age by province, whether a property has rooms, what the dress standard is — that visitors need before they book.
The publication exists because the information was scattered and mostly promotional. Operators describe their own properties; travel aggregators rank by nightly rate; nobody was writing plainly about which Canadian casino hotels are worth the journey and which are a floor with a car park. We started in 2023 with four Ontario reviews and now cover 17 properties across seven provinces, with reference material for all 10.
Every venue we write about is licensed gaming, regulated by the province it operates in — which is why our provincial guides lead with the regulator and the legal age rather than with the floor size. What we assess on top of that is the whole gaming experience: the casino floor, the rooms, the restaurants and the entertainment, as one trip rather than five separate facts.
Our readers are largely Canadian travellers planning a two- or three-night trip, plus a steady share of visitors from the United States and further afield. The tone we aim for is the one you would want from a well-informed friend: specific, unexcited, and willing to say when something is not worth it.
What we are not
Canada Hideaways is not a casino and not a gambling operator. We do not own, operate or manage any casino, hotel or gambling facility. We do not accept bets or wagers. We do not process deposits, withdrawals or payments of any kind. We do not offer, host or promote online gambling, internet casinos, mobile gaming applications or sports betting platforms. We publish no bonus offers, promotional codes or affiliate gaming links.
Everything on this site is informational and editorial. If you arrived here looking for somewhere to place a wager, this is not that site.
We also do not publish strategy content. Every game described in our games guide carries a built-in mathematical advantage to the house, and no system, pattern or staking plan changes that. Presenting one would be misleading, so we do not.
How we review

Each property is scored on five dimensions, weighted into a single headline figure out of ten. Scoring them separately is deliberate: it stops a beautiful hotel with a thin gaming floor from being confused with a great casino, and vice versa.
| Criterion | Weight | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Casino floor | 30% | Floor size; slot machine count and mix; number and range of table games; genuine poker room, sportsbook lounge, bingo hall or high roller salon; standard of professional dealers and floor supervision. |
| Hotel | 25% | Room count and condition; which categories are worth booking; noise and service; whether the property has rooms at all and what the nearest alternative is. |
| Dining | 15% | Range of outlets and whether any restaurant is worth booking independently of the casino; value against local city pricing. |
| Entertainment | 15% | Theatre or event capacity and what it actually programmes across a year; free lounge entertainment; what the surrounding area adds. |
| Value | 15% | Room rates against comparable properties; parking cost; table minimums; total cost of a two-night stay against the experience. |
Our working rules
- Same criteria for everyone. A 600-machine floor in Halifax is scored on the same scale as a 4,800-machine floor in Pickering, and both scores say what they mean.
- Figures are labelled as estimates. Slot counts, table counts, floor sizes and room numbers come from publicly available information and change over time. We say so on every review rather than implying precision we do not have.
- Reviews are dated and revisited. Properties refurbish, add hotels and close restaurants. Each review is reviewed at least annually.
- No fabricated guest reviews. We publish no user testimonials, star ratings or quotes we did not obtain. The assessments here are editorial and signed by the publication.
- Corrections are published. If we get a figure wrong, tell us and we will check and amend it. Write to [email protected].
Editorial independence
We are not affiliated with any casino operator, hotel group, provincial lottery corporation or regulator. No property named on this site has any editorial involvement in what we publish about it.
- No paid placements. Properties cannot buy a review, a score, a position in a ranking, or inclusion in a segment list.
- No affiliate gaming links. There are no revenue-sharing links to any gambling product, platform or operator anywhere on this site.
- No comped coverage. Where a visit involves hospitality provided by a property, that fact is disclosed in the review, and it does not affect the score.
- Advertising is separated. Any display advertising is labelled and sold independently of editorial. Advertisers see no coverage in advance and have no influence over it.
- Operators may respond. A property that believes a review contains an error is welcome to write to us. We check, and we correct what is wrong — and only what is wrong.

Our position on responsible gaming
We write about gambling venues as travel destinations, which means we have an obligation not to pretend gambling is free of harm. Every game on a Canadian casino floor is designed to take in more than it pays out, and for a minority of people, playing them causes serious damage.
So: we publish no strategy or system content, no bonus or promotional material, no urgency, and no framing of gambling as a way to make money. We carry a responsible gaming note on every review, we maintain a full resources page with provincial helplines and self-exclusion information, and we state the gaming age for the relevant province on every property we cover.
