How we handle personal information at Canada Hideaways, written in plain language.
1. Who we are
Canada Hideaways is an independent editorial publication about casino hotels and resorts in Canada, published by Canada Hideaways Media Inc., a corporation registered in Ontario, Canada.
Our registered office is 250 University Avenue, Suite 410, Toronto, ON M5H 3E5, Canada. We are the organisation responsible for personal information collected through canadahideaways.com.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where they apply, provincial privacy laws. Our commercial email practices follow Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

2. What we collect, and why
We collect very little. Reading this site requires no account and no personal information.
Information you give us
- Contact form: your name, email address, chosen subject and message. We use these solely to read and reply to your enquiry.
- Newsletter: your email address, and the date you consented. We use it solely to send the monthly dispatch you asked for.
- Correspondence: if you email or telephone us, whatever you choose to tell us, kept so we can deal with the matter.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs: our hosting provider records the requesting IP address, the page requested, the time, the browser and operating system reported, and the referring page. These logs exist to keep the site running and secure. We do not use them to build profiles of readers.
- Analytics, only with your consent: if you accept analytics cookies, aggregate statistics about which pages are read and for how long. If you decline, no analytics are collected and the site works identically. See our Cookie Policy.
- Your cookie choice: a small record kept in your own browser so we do not ask again on every page. It stays on your device and is not transmitted to us as personal information.
What we never collect
We do not collect payment card details, banking information, government identifiers, health information or gambling activity of any kind. We are a publication, not a gambling operator — there is no account to open, no wager to place and no deposit to make on this site.
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone below the legal gambling age in their province, and we do not direct content at minors.
3. The ten PIPEDA principles, and how we apply them

4. Third parties
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. Ever. We share it only in these situations:
- Service providers. Our web host, and — if you subscribe — an email delivery provider. They process information on our instructions only, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
- Analytics providers, if and only if you have accepted analytics cookies. Where analytics data is processed outside Canada, it is subject to the laws of that jurisdiction; this is the reason consent is requested rather than assumed.
- Legal obligation. Where we are required by Canadian law, a court order or a lawful request from an authority to disclose information.
Casino operators, hotel groups, lottery corporations and gambling businesses are not among the parties we share reader information with. No property named on this site receives anything about you from us.
Outbound links to responsible gambling organisations, regulators and other third parties are provided for reference. Once you follow one, that organisation's own privacy practices apply and ours no longer do.
5. How long we keep things

6. Your rights
Under PIPEDA you may:
- Ask what we hold about you, and receive a copy.
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate or incomplete.
- Ask us to delete what we hold, where we have no legal reason to keep it.
- Withdraw consent at any time — unsubscribe from the newsletter, or change your cookie choice using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of every page.
- Complain, to us and to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
To exercise any of these, email [email protected] or use the contact form and choose "Privacy or data request". We respond within 30 days, as PIPEDA requires. We may need to verify your identity before releasing information, and we will ask for no more than is necessary to do so.
7. Email and CASL
We send one commercial email: the monthly dispatch, and only to people who have asked for it.
- Opt-in. The newsletter checkbox is unticked by default and must be ticked deliberately.
- Identification. Every email identifies Canada Hideaways Media Inc. and includes our postal address.
- Unsubscribe. Every email carries a working unsubscribe link, actioned within 10 business days and in practice immediately. You may also simply reply and ask.
- No sharing. The subscriber list is never sold, rented or shared, and is not used for third-party advertising.
8. Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection. Form submissions are transmitted in encrypted form. Access to correspondence is limited to editorial staff who need it. Our hosting provider maintains physical and network security controls of its own.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as PIPEDA requires.
9. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, write to our Privacy Officer at [email protected]. We will investigate and respond in writing.

10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page. Material changes to how we use personal information will be flagged on the site, and where the change requires it, we will ask for fresh consent.
