Caesars Windsor

The strongest entertainment programme of any Canadian casino hotel, wrapped around a 758-room resort on the Detroit River.

Overview

Caesars Windsor is the closest thing Canada has to a Las Vegas-style integrated resort, and the comparison is not accidental — it carries the Caesars brand and much of the operating playbook. Two hotel towers hold 758 rooms above a 100,000-square-foot gaming floor, and the 5,000-seat Colosseum books the kind of arena acts that would otherwise skip the region entirely.

Location is the property's defining feature. It sits on the Windsor riverfront looking directly at the Detroit skyline, a short tunnel or bridge crossing from the United States. That has made it a cross-border destination for decades, and it gives the floor a busier, more international feel than its size alone would suggest.

As a hotel, it is genuinely good rather than merely adequate: a large spa, a proper convention centre and a set of restaurants that hold up on their own. What it lacks is natural scenery — this is an urban riverfront property, not a resort in a landscape.

The casino floor

Slot machines on a casino floor
Slot machines take up the majority of floor space at every property in this guide. Photograph for illustration.

The gaming floor runs to roughly 2,000 slot machines and 75 table games across a single large hall and several quieter side rooms. Slot selection is broad and refreshed often, with progressive banks, modern slot machines with seated cabinets, and a well-sized high-limit room for players at the top end.

Table games cover blackjack across a wide limit range, roulette, baccarat, craps and a set of card games including three-card and Caribbean variants. The separate poker room runs cash games and regular tournaments with professional dealers. A sportsbook area covers North American leagues on a bank of screens with lounge seating.

High rollers get dedicated salons, elevated limits and personalised 24/7 VIP service through the property's tiered rewards programme, which — usefully — is recognised across a wider international network of affiliated resorts.

Hotel & resort

Hotel suite interior

The two towers offer a broad room mix, from straightforward doubles to large suites in the newer Augustus tower. Rooms are well kept, quiet for a property of this size, and priced noticeably below Niagara Falls for comparable quality. Upper-floor rooms facing north look across the river to Detroit.

Amenities include a large spa and salon, indoor pool, fitness centre and roughly 100,000 square feet of meeting space, which means the property is often hosting conferences alongside leisure guests. Indoor connections keep you out of the weather between hotel, casino, theatre and restaurants.

Dining

Restaurant table setting
Casino hotel restaurants range from destination dining to functional. Photograph for illustration.

Ten-plus outlets covering a steakhouse, an Italian room, a noodle and dim sum kitchen, a large buffet and several casual and coffee options. Standards are consistent and portions are generous; the steakhouse is the reservation worth making. Windsor's own restaurant scene, particularly along Erie Street, is a short taxi ride away and worth one evening.

Entertainment

Theatre auditorium
Theatre capacity tells you which acts a property can book. Photograph for illustration.

The Colosseum, at roughly 5,000 seats, is the differentiator — it draws major touring musicians, comedians and boxing cards throughout the year, and it is the main reason many visitors book. A smaller lounge stage runs free live music, and the riverfront festival calendar adds to the summer programme.

Pros and cons

What works

  • The best live entertainment calendar of any casino hotel in Canada, in a 5,000-seat arena
  • 758 rooms with real quality and pricing below comparable Ontario resorts
  • Deep table game selection plus a working poker room and sportsbook lounge
  • Genuine cross-border location with the Detroit skyline as the view

What does not

  • Urban riverfront setting, with no natural scenery on the doorstep
  • Frequent conference traffic can make public areas feel busy midweek
  • Border crossing adds friction for US visitors at peak times

Verdict

8.9 / 10 · Excellent

Book it for a show. Caesars Windsor is at its best when your trip is built around the Colosseum calendar, with a large gaming floor, a strong hotel and good restaurants doing the rest. Better value than Niagara Falls, with less scenery to show for it.
