Overview

Club Regent Casino, in Winnipeg's east end, is operated by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries and is the more interesting of the province's two urban casinos. The interior leans into an aquatic theme — including a large aquarium feature — and the complex includes a 1,200-seat event centre and a substantial bingo hall.

There is no hotel on the property, which makes Manitoba a city-break market rather than a resort one. Downtown Winnipeg hotels are 15 to 20 minutes away by car, and rates there are among the lowest of any major Canadian city.

Manitoba's 18+ gaming age applies. The floor is mid-sized — roughly 1,200 machines and 30 tables — and consistently comfortable rather than spectacular.

The casino floor

About 1,200 slot machines fill the main floor, with a broad denomination spread and a modest high-limit area. The selection is current and includes progressive banks; the aquatic-themed rooms give the space more character than most floors of this size.

Around 30 table games cover blackjack, roulette, baccarat and a handful of card games at approachable minimums. Poker runs occasionally rather than as a standing room. A sports lounge covers major fixtures, and Jets nights are busy.

The bingo hall is a genuine differentiator: large, regularly scheduled sessions with a loyal following, and one of the best places in Canada to see the format run properly.

Hotel & resort

No guest rooms on site. Downtown Winnipeg has a full range of hotels 15 to 20 minutes away, and there are mid-range options closer to the casino in the east end.

Manitoba has no casino hotel in the attached sense — if a room connected to a gaming floor is a requirement, the nearest options are in Saskatchewan or Ontario.

Dining

Restaurant table setting
Casino hotel restaurants range from destination dining to functional. Photograph for illustration.

A buffet, a grill and casual counters plus lounge service — pitched at the local market, priced accordingly, and entirely adequate. Winnipeg's own restaurant scene, particularly in the Exchange District, is worth the trip downtown.

Entertainment

Theatre auditorium

The 1,200-seat event centre programmes touring music, comedy and tribute acts through the year, and the bingo hall runs its own busy calendar. Free lounge entertainment appears most weekends.

Pros and cons

What works

  • The best bingo programme of any casino in western Canada
  • 1,200-seat event centre with a steady touring calendar
  • Free parking, low minimums and 18+ gaming age
  • Winnipeg hotel rates are among the cheapest of any major Canadian city

What does not

  • No hotel on the property, and none attached anywhere in Manitoba
  • Mid-sized floor with limited high-limit provision
  • Suburban location with little to walk to

Verdict

7.7 / 10 · Good

A good city casino rather than a casino hotel. Come for the bingo hall and the event centre, stay downtown for the low rates, and treat Winnipeg itself — not the property — as the destination.
